The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre has an opportunity for an experienced writer to formulate a 500 word companion text for an upcoming exhibition, The Feminine Art of Shooting – Beth Kay.
Beth Kay is a Mount Gambier artist working in painting and digital media. Completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2022, Kay is an emerging artist in Mount Gambier who has developed and extended her painting practice into sport and the art of shooting. Having spent hours at the shooting range honing her target practice skills, Beth began employing the rifle as a powerful tool in her creative practice.
Beth has developed a practice that incorporates both the design of the target and the guns associated to raise broader questions about the gendered practice of marksmanship, the target as an image and the act of shooting itself.
Beth Kay: The Feminine Art of Shooting will showcase a collection of new works, including large, suspended prints and small handmade drawings and notes to be on display in the Margaret Scott Gallery at The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre from 15 June to 28 July 2024. The exhibition will be suitably accompanied by touring exhibitions Natalya Hughes: The Interior and Clarice Beckett: Paintings from the National Collection in the adjoining galleries.
