The 80 km/h speed limit on two sections of road on the outskirts of the city on Lake Terrace East and O’Leary Road Mount Gambier has been lowered to 50 km/h from today.
The 50 km/h speed limit has been extended 500 metres on Lake Terrace East towards Lewis Avenue. The 50 km/h speed limit has also been extended by 450 metres on O’Leary Road to include Springview Drive.
Council has been in correspondence with DIT over the past couple of years regarding the need to adjust the speed limit in these areas due to the increase in residential traffic following the opening of the ReUse Market on Eucalypt Drive and the Springview residential land division in the vicinity of O’Leary Road. - General Manager City Infrastructure Barbara Cernovskis
DIT advised Council on 31 January 2024 that the proposed changes were approved by the Manager Traffic Services, Network Management Services DIT, for and on behalf of the Commissioner of Highways on 24 January 2024.
“The speed limit reductions will help to ensure road safety in these areas.”
