City of Mount Gambier Citizenship Ceremony

The City of Mount Gambier officially welcomed eight new citizens as full members of the Australian community at a special Citizenship Ceremony held at the Civic Centre Council Chamber on Thursday 1 February 2018. The recipients, including three young children, originally came from the United Kingdom, India and Thailand and now call Mount Gambier home. Read full article

Autofest is back this weekend

​Up to 10,000 people are expected to converge on the Mount Gambier Showgrounds this weekend for the 10th annual Mount Gambier Autofest and 40th Show N Shine. Autofest is open to everything automotive, from cars, trucks, bikes and anything that has wheels. Operations Manager Les Adams said car lovers will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with vehicles of all makes and models. Read full article

Lions Centennial Park and Memorial Wall Official Opening
31 January 2018

To celebrate its centenary, a Lions centennial park and memorial wall will be officially opened in Mount Gambier on the weekend. The park boasts a shelter, paved area, a barbecue and a seating area and also includes a feature wall and signage. Lions club members provided more than 500 hours of labour and in kind support, with 10 people at a time working on site to complete the project. Read full article

Changing Places to help people with disability

A Changing Places disability toilet will be built in Mount Gambier as part of a $1.7 million State Government program aimed at increasing access for people living with disability. Changing Places are best-practice toilets that include customised features that give people with disability a dignified and purpose-built facility to use when they are out. Read full article

Mongolian teachers visit Mount Gambier on cultural exchange

A delegation of 10 English teachers from Baotou, Inner Mongolia, China are in Mount Gambier this week on a cultural study tour. They enjoyed a civic reception at the City of Mount Gambier Civic Centre Council Chamber with Mayor Andrew Lee and Deputy Mayor Hanna Persello. Read full article

City of Mount Gambier Australian Sprintcar Title

The Borderline Speedway will host the City of Mount Gambier Australian Sprintcar Championship in Mount Gambier from today until Saturday 27 January. The speedway last hosted the Championship in 1995, and after 24 years there are a few local drivers hoping for success on their home track, with three action packed nights of racing. Flag to fly again over iconic Centenary Tower

​The City of Mount Gambier flag will fly over Mount Gambier’s iconic Centenary Tower once again on Australia Day and on the weekend (weather permitting) as a new caretaker re-opens the historic building and tourism hot spot. Adelaide born Mobile Travel Agent Ben Deering and new Mount Gambier resident has been appointed caretaker for the next six months on a trial basis. Read full article

2018 Tertiary Health Education Grants Program

The Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grant program will provide 12 subsidies to local health students in 2018. The program supports city or district residents who need to leave the region to undertake university studies in identified health skill shortage areas required within the community.
