Microchip your pet by 30 June

​Following changes to the Dog and Cat Management Act, from 1 July 2018, all dogs and cats must be microchipped. All new generations of dogs and cats (born after 1 July 2018) must be desexed with exemptions to apply for working dogs and registered breeders. The Dogs and Cats Online system is a one-stop online service for all registration payments, microchipping and breeder information and is accessible 24/7, including on mobile devices. 'Hickory Dickory Dash' live at City Hall

​More than 240 local school children were entertained by the Mount Gambier Library’s theatrical performance of “Hickory Dickory Dash” at City Hall as part of National Simultaneous Storytime. Every year, a picture book written and illustrated by an Australian author is read simultaneously across the nation on the same day at the same time, in kindergartens, schools, bookshops and libraries. $6.8million ALDI Application Approved

The City of Mount Gambier has approved a $6.8million development application from ALDI to construct a supermarket, four retail outlets and extended car park at 58 Commercial Street East Mount Gambier, the site formerly occupied by the Fidler and Webb shopping complex. Read full article

Five new Australian citizens welcomed

Five members of the Mount Gambier community took the final step in their journey to become an Australian citizen last week. Candiates made the Australian Citizenship oath, pledging their loyalty to Australia at a City of Mount Gambier Citizenship Ceremony held at the Civic Centre Council Chamber on Thursday 3 May 2018. Fund continues to support talented young athletes

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund congratulates Hayden Crowe on his selection to participate in the 2018 Australian Little Athletics Championships. Hayden attended the 2018 Australian Little Athletics Championships in Runaway Bay, Queensland during April. He received a $150 donation from the fund to help get him there. Read full article

Railway Lands a national winner

The Mount Gambier Railway Lands won the National From Plan to Place Award at the Planning Institute Australia (PIA) National Awards for Planning Excellence 2018 held in Perth on Wednesday 9 May 2018. A PIA National Award is the highest accolade for urban and regional planners in Australia, demonstrating leading practice and achievement in planning. Read full article

Ghost Mushrooms glowing at the Visitor Centre

Throughout the month of May, the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre will be open after dark to host a display of glowing Ghost Mushrooms, providing a taste of Ghost Mushroom Lane currently open to view in the pine forest near Glencoe. In 2017 18,000 people visited the inaugural forest trail initiative leading to the glowing mushrooms. This year the concept has expanded to include organised tours in the forest and an inside display at the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre. Read full article

'Pop Out Brochure' at the Visitor Centre

Local tourism experiences come alive with the newly installed ‘Pop Out Brochure’ now on show at the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre, featuring works by local artist Mel Cecotti. The ‘Pop-Out Brochure’ is a new installation at the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre to encourage fun and engaging interaction. The ‘brochure in art’ concept provides a taste of the region to encourage the visitor to explore the area. Read full article
