Nominations open for 2019 Australia Day Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Australia Day Awards. Award recipients will be recognised at the City of Mount Gambier Australia Day Breakfast to be held at the Railway Lands on Saturday 26 January 2019. These awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, and/or given outstanding service over a number of years to our local community, over and above normal employment duties. Locals urged to participate in Ride2Work Day

City of Mount Gambier locals are being urged to join commuters across Australia and jump on their bikes to celebrate Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 17 October 2018. More than 150,000 Australians are expected to demonstrate the power of the pedal as they hop on their bikes and enjoy the health benefits of riding to work. Ride2Work Day helps people who have never commuted by bike before to give it a go and allows regular riders to stay motivated and encourage their work colleagues to get involved. Read full article

Embrace all things tech at the Innovation Lab

​The Mount Gambier Library will host its third Innovation Lab on Saturday 13 October 2018 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, enabling the community to explore, see, share, touch and play with cool technologies. The family friendly event is free to attend and will be delivered through a collaboration with local businesses, Anvil Electronics and Harvey Norman. Read full article

Fund assists soccer stars headed to Fiji Cup

​Further to the donation made to the South East Women's Football Association on behalf of Lauren and Chelsea Frost, the Junior Sports Assistance Fund is also pleased to support the Limestone Coast Football Association with donations to support Harry Wilson and Tyler Michielan. Harry and Tyler have been selected in the under 17 state squad to attend the Ultimate Fiji Cup in December 2018. Read full article

GovHack winners announced

​A record 45 local competitors participated in the 2018 GovHack Open Data competition, designed to provide budding entrepreneurs with an opportunity to connect, share ideas and create innovative ways to access open government data. The event ran throughout Australia simultaneously from Friday 7 September until Sunday 9 September 2018, hosted locally at the Mount Gambier Library. Umpherston nominated for 7 wonders of Australia

​Mount Gambier’s Umpherston Sinkhole is among six iconic South Australian sites nominated in a nation-wide voting initiative to determine the ‘7 Wonders of Australia’, with tens of thousands of Aussies expected to vote in what is set to be Australia’s largest-ever online travel poll. Mike Carlton - His story, no holds barred

​In a working life spanning more than 50 years, Mike Carlton has become one of Australia’s best-known media figures. He has been a radio and television news and current affairs reporter, foreign correspondent, radio host and newspaper columnist. His life so colourful and interesting, it has led to the release of his biography “On Air”, a no holds barred story, told with characteristic humour and flair. Junior Soccer stars bound for Fiji

​The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund is pleased to donate $700 to the South East Women's Football Association on behalf of Lauren and Chelsea Frost. Lauren and Chelsea have been selected in the under 15 and under 17 state squad to attend the Ultimate Fiji Cup in December 2018. Read full article
