​Get your friends and family together to help make Mount Gambier clean and green at this year’s Clean Up Australia Day event to be held this weekend, Sunday 3 March 2019. Every year since 1990, local communities have rolled up their sleeves, put on some gloves and joined forces to and clean up their local schools, parks, sporting grounds, road sides and city centre areas by collecting and removing rubbish. ​City of Mount Gambier will install no stopping zones on the north side of Jubilee Highway East on either side of the Attamurra Road intersection to improve traffic safety. The decision was made at the Council meeting last night, following a report to Council and complaints from motorists regarding restricted sight distance for vehicles leaving Attamurra Road due to trucks and caravans parking along the roadway to go to the McDonald’s restaurant. Five members of the Mount Gambier community were granted Australian citizenship following a citizenship ceremony officiated by the City of Mount Gambier on Thursday 7 February 2019 at the Council chambers. Mayor Lynette Martin OAM presided over the ceremony where the candidates, surrounded by family and friends, pledged their loyalty and commitment to Australia through the citizenship pledge.
