Crater Lakes precinct closed

The Crater Lakes area will remain closed to ensure public safety for at least another week as damage and hazard assessment begins following a grass and scrub fire which began burning early on Tuesday morning 25 January 2022 and was contained by Wednesday afternoon 26 January 2022. Crater Lakes fire recovery assessment to begin
27 January 2022

The Crater Lakes was returned to the care and control of the City of Mount Gambier late this afternoon following a fire on the western side of the precinct. The fire blackened about 50 hectares of grass, scrub and vegetation since it was first reported early on Tuesday morning. The area remains closed until further notice to ensure public safety, enable ongoing fire monitoring and for damage and hazard assessment to begin. Read full article

The grass and scrub fire on the western side of the Crater Lakes precinct is now contained. The fire is still smouldering and the area remains closed until further notice to enable fire control to continue in the coming days and for damage assessment to begin. Read full article

Valley Lake water testing begins

2022 Australia Day Award recipients announced

The City of Mount Gambier is pleased to announce the 2022 Australia Day Award winners. Citizen of the Year will be awarded to Adam Smith, Senior Citizen of the Year will be presented to Joan Osmond and Lorraine Musgrove, Young Citizen of the Year will be awarded to Julia Dangerfield, the Community Event of the Year will be presented to Blue Lake Carols and the Active Citizenship Award will be given to the Mount Gambier Men’s Shed ‘Toy Boys’. Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre welcomes new manager

City of Mount Gambier has welcomed Diana Warnes to the role of Manager Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre. Diana joins Council from her most recent position as Head of Curatorial Projects at Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast and has spent the last four months working as a curatorial consultant for Rockhampton Museum of Art.
