Mount Gambier Library is set to host South Australian author, poet and creative writing teacher Jude Aquilina with several free events on offer to local writers as part of the Writers SA Writers in Residence program.

Dual names for sites of cultural significance

City of Mount Gambier has adopted a Dual Naming Policy that will see Boandik language featured alongside the place names of six local sites of cultural significance – Umpherston Sinkhole, the Cave Garden, Leg of Mutton Lake, Brownes Lake, the Valley Lake and the Blue Lake.

The ‘Live and Local’ music program Homemade Jam continues in 2022 with opportunities for musicians, venues and the Mount Gambier community to participate in and have a say about the current state of live music locally. It will also explore creative ways to engage audiences and musicians within the live music scene.

Sections of the Valley Lakes area now open
14 February 2022
City of Mount Gambier has today (Monday 14 February 2022) reopened Davison Drive, the Valley Lake Conservation Park, playground and picnic areas and Freemans Landing for public use after a fire that burned 50 hectares of grass and scrub in the Crater Lakes precinct in January 2022.

Special Council Meeting for emergency response
09 February 2022
A Special Council Meeting was held in the Civic Centre Council Chamber last night to discuss the emergency response process following the Crater Lakes fire. Council endorsed recommendations relating to budget expenditure, procurement and road and land management to enable the Chief Executive Officer and Council officers to progress with early assessment and recovery activities in the area.

Tertiary Health Education Grants Program Open

Local tertiary students who are required to leave the region to study in a health related field are encouraged to apply for a $2000 grant to support their learning as part of the annual Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grant program.

Marist Park oval, Leg of Mutton and Saddle reopen
04 February 2022
City of Mount Gambier has reopened Marist Park oval (for organised sports only), the Leg of Mutton Lake, Davison Drive up to Marks lookout and the saddle area today, Friday 4 February 2022. These areas were unaffected by the fire that burned 50 hectares of grass and scrub in the Crater Lakes precinct last week and are now deemed safe for public use following damage and risk assessment.

2021 Christmas Appeal donations smash record

The local community has raised a record breaking $51,231.60 for the 2021 Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, eclipsing the 2020 fundraising record of just over $40,000.

Community urged to stay away from Crater Lakes

Emergency services and City of Mount Gambier are urging the community to stay away from the Crater Lakes precinct following a fire that burned 50 hectares of grass and scrub last week. The call comes as people have been spotted walking in the area despite the ongoing danger to public safety.

Two exhibitions opening at The Riddoch

The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre will present two new exhibitions opening to the public on Saturday 5 February 2022. Curious Minds: Women of the South East will present the work of three iconic women of the region, well known for their fiercely independent spirit and enduring art legacy, while Petrichor will showcase video work by early career artist Georgia Button.
