Section of Sugarloaf reopened following fire
13 April 2022
City of Mount Gambier has today reopened a section of the Sugarloaf, enabling users to access the area between Potters Point and the Punchbowl at the base of the Centenary Tower stairs. The latest phase of the staggered approach to reopening the Crater Lakes area follows ongoing risk assessments since fire took hold in late January burning 50 hectares of grass and scrub.

Councillor Steven Perryman resigns from Council
29 March 2022
City of Mount Gambier Councillor Steven Perryman has resigned from his role as an Elected Member of Council after almost 22 years of service to the local community. Councillor Perryman informed the Mayor, Elected Members and CEO of his decision this morning, with the resignation effective from 5:00pm tonight 29 March 2022. Councillor Perryman became an Elected Member of Council on 13 May 2000 at the age of 26. In 2002 he began in the city’s key civic role as the youngest Mayor in South Australia, a position he held for 12 years before he stood down at the local government election in 2014 to return as a Councillor.

Crater Lakes Fire Aftermath Update

City of Mount Gambier has reopened Elliott Drive to the Centenary Tower car park from today (Friday 11 March 2022) following a fire that burned 50 hectares of grass and scrub in the Crater Lakes precinct in January 2022.

Waste Education Campaign set to launch
28 February 2022
Following months of research into the waste management behaviour of residents, City of Mount Gambier will launch a waste education campaign this week focused on reducing organic waste ending up in landfill. Developed in conjunction with experienced creative agency Paper Moose, the campaign encourages local residents to use the kerbside bin system appropriately and dispose of all organic matter via the FOGO (food organics/garden organics) bin.
