City of Mount Gambier has today reopened a further section of trail in the Crater Lakes precinct with access reinstated to the path leading to Centenary Tower from the Elliott Drive car park side.
Works to remove fire affected trees within the blue gum trails commenced this week, and this area remains closed, along with the crater rim between the stairs and the other side of Centenary Tower.

“Once the trees have been felled, the fire tracks graded, and the trails cleaned up, the area will be re-opened. This work is anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks.”
Brownes Lake/Kroweratwari, the back section of Carinya Gardens Cemetery, and associated walking/bike trails connected to these areas remain closed as Council awaits further risk assessments and a detailed report into the options for the management of trees affected by the fire to be completed.
This phase of the staggered approach to reopening the Crater Lakes area follows ongoing risk assessments since fire took hold in late January burning 50 hectares of grass and scrub.
