With the State Government outlining further easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Mount Gambier Library continues to expand its service delivery. The next phase of the staged re-opening has seen the library opening hours extended, capacity limits further increased and time limits on visits removed.

From today Monday 22 June 2020, the facility is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday with an increased capacity from 20 to 75 people.

The Les Hill Local History Room has recently re-opened enabling people to resume their research, Justice of the Peace volunteers are back on deck each Monday and Wednesday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm to certify documents (bookings required) and the team of Library volunteers have returned to lend a hand at the popular facility.

Mount Gambier Library Manager Georgina Davison thanked the community for complying with the restrictions and indicated further resumption of services is on the horizon.

We would like to thank our wonderful customers for being so patient and working with us to ensure the safety of our community, while complying with strict guidelines.

“It is because of this compliance and cooperation that we are able to expand into the next phase of returning with more services, programs and extended opening hours.”

“Customers will need to exercise continued compliance with sanitising, physical distancing and providing their name and contact details upon arrival.”

Further steps will see the re-introduction of weekend opening hours with the community able to attend the facility from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays from 4 July 2020.

With July School Holidays just around the corner, the library will be providing a full online program of events. Children will be able to register beforehand and collect a ‘MakerBox’ to assist with the program.

“These fun filled boxes will contain absolutely everything needed to complete incredible activities from home with tutorials being streamed on Facebook and the City of Mount Gambier YouTube channel,” Ms Davison said.

Whilst the library continues to offer online programming for the timebeing, the onsite return of programs is set for after the school holidays.

“During this unprecedented time it has become even more apparent that the library plays an important role within our community so it is pleasing to be able to continue rolling out the stages of our re-opening to reward our patrons and community for doing the right thing,” Ms Davison said.
