The City of Mount Gambier is inviting feedback to determine the community’s engagement with and future aspirations for the Crater Lakes area.
Home to the Blue Lake/Warwar, Valley Lake/Ketla Malpi, Brownes Lake/Kroweratwari and Leg of Mutton Lake/Yatton Loo, the Crater Lakes area is not only an important feature within the environmental landscape of the city, but provides a significant space for recreation, cultural heritage, community events and tourism.

“The recent Crater Lakes fire highlighted the strong local importance of this area and renewed discussion within the community about how we best conserve, manage and further enhance the site in the years to come."
“There’s also an exciting opportunity to envisage a range of new ways that the Crater Lakes could be activated that may have not been previously considered or explored and it’s a great opportunity to explore new concepts.”
To enable Council to better understand the aspirations for the Crater Lakes area, the community is invited to provide input at www.haveyoursaymountgambier.com.au by completing the survey, dropping a pin and a comment on a digital map or phoning the project team to discuss your ideas on 8721 2555 during office hours.
“We are encouraging the community to share their thoughts and ideas for the Crater Lakes and what is important to them, what should be protected or retained and what can be improved,” Mr Coote said.
In addition, members of the community can talk to the project team at a pop-up consultation session held in the Crater Lakes area in the coming months commencing on Sunday 3 July 2022 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm near the Valley Lakes playground, weather dependant. Details about other upcoming pop-up sessions will be available on the Have Your Say Mount Gambier website and Council’s Facebook page.
