Prospective candidates for the 2018 Local Government Elections to be held in November are encouraged to attend a free information session to find out more about the role and responsibilities of council members.

The briefing session will be delivered by the Local Government Association of South Australia and the Electoral Commission of South Australia in conjunction with the District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier.

If you are interested in representing the community and want to find out more about the role of an elected member and the election process, you should attend the information session.

“The session will include information on topics including the role and functions of a council, the relationship between councils and other spheres of government, the role of an elected member, allowances and expenses, legal responsibilities, how elections are conducted, eligibility and the process of nomination and campaigning for election.”

The candidate information session will be held on Wednesday 22 August 2018 in the Dress Circle at the Main Corner Complex, 1 Bay Road from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.

Candidate nominations for positons on Council will open on 4 September 2018 and close at midday on Tuesday 18 September 2018.

Voting in the 2018 council elections will be via postal ballot, with ballot papers distributed in October, and voting closing at 5:00pm Friday 9 November.
