Up to 10,000 people are expected to converge on the Mount Gambier Showgrounds this weekend for the 10th annual Mount Gambier Autofest and 40th Show N Shine.
Autofest is open to everything automotive, from cars, trucks, bikes and anything that has wheels. Operations Manager Les Adams said car lovers will get the opportunity to get up close and personal with vehicles of all makes and models.
“It’s a car enthusiast’s dream, with vehicles from as far back as the 1920s, restored and modified originals, right up to current day makes,” Mr Adams said.
For the first time ever in Mount Gambier, the ‘Burnouts Under Lights’ event will be staged on Saturday night from 5:00pm until 10:00pm.
“Autofest competitors will be performing stunts in a safe, controlled environment, rather than on the streets. Competitors will only take part after acquiring full registration and an event permit,” he said.
The City of Mount Gambier sponsors the event to the value of $5000 and will also provide in kind support.
“This event returns an estimated $500,000 into the local economy, and we are very happy to support it,” City of Mount Gambier Mayor Andrew Lee said.
