The City of Mount Gambier invites all members of the community together with visitors to Mount Gambier, to celebrate what’s great about being Australian at the Australia Day Breakfast and Awards Ceremony to be held this Thursday 26th January, 2018 at the Railway Lands, Railway Terrace.
The annual event will begin at 7:30am with breakfast provided by the Lakes Rotary Club of Mount Gambier which is available to purchase for $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children, with all proceeds donated to Regional Foodbank and Boandik Lodge. Attendees are reminded to bring own crockery and cutlery for the chance to enter the lucky draw.
Entertainment starts at 7:30am by North Gambier Primary School and New Arrivals Program, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Jason, Christy and Jimmy Wallace and Phoenix Music studio singing the National Anthem and We are Australian.
We encourage the audience to wear something “Australian” as there will be a “Best Dressed” prize given.
Official proceedings will begin at 9:15am with the flag raising and awards ceremony.
The City of Mount Gambier will recognise extraordinary community members including joint Citizen of the Year, Peter Martin and Lois Bayre, Young Citizen of the Year, Laura Small and the Community Event of the Year, 150 Years Fidler & Webb Exhibition by the Mount Gambier History Group.
“We had many worthy nominations this year, making the decision to identify the recipients a difficult task” Mayor Lee said.
