City of Mount Gambier elected members Sonya Mezinec and Frank Morello have been recognised for ten years of continuous service to Council.

Mayor Lynette Martin acknowledged Cr Mezinec and Cr Morello's dedication at the November 2024 Council Meeting.

Cr Sonya Mezinec first joined the council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018 and 2022.

“This reflects the high regard and trust she holds within our community,” Mayor Martin said.

Throughout her tenure, Cr Mezinec has served on various committees, including the Audit and Risk Committee, Environmental Sustainability Subcommittee, Lifelong Learning Subcommittee, Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre Committee, and the CEO Selection and Recruitment Committee. Currently, she serves on the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Trust and chairs the Christmas Parade Advisory Group.

From November 2018 to December 2020, Cr Mezinec also served as deputy mayor. Mayor Martin described her as a “dedicated councillor with exemplary attendance at meetings, briefings, and workshops” and praised her willingness to represent Council at events.

“Cr Mezinec engages in debates and decision-making with balance and integrity. On behalf of her fellow elected members, I thank her for her invaluable contribution to the City of Mount Gambier and I congratulate her on this significant milestone,” Mayor Martin said.

“Cr Morello has contributed to numerous committees, including earlier roles on the Rail Lands Development and Management Committee and the City Development Frameworks Subcommittee. More recently, he has been involved in the CEO Selection and Recruitment Committee and the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre Committee, among others,” Mayor Martin said.

Since joining the council in 2018, Mayor Martin noted Cr Morello’s commitment and professionalism.

“Cr Morello is a hardworking councillor who rarely misses meetings or workshops. He always participates in respectful and thoughtful debates. On behalf of the council, I congratulate him on this milestone and thank him for his significant contributions to the City of Mount Gambier,” she said.
