Mayors Message

Welcome to the City of Mount Gambier website which outlines Council services, policies, activities and facilities.

The City of Mount Gambier Draft Annual Business Plan and Budget is a statement of the City’s intended services, programs and activities for the 2017/2018 financial year. I thank everyone who shared their views about the Plan and Budget during the consultation period which closed on Friday, 9th June, 2017. The City of Mount Gambier is committed to listening to, and responding to concerns and ideas put forward by the community.

Personally, I believe the Plan and Budget to be very fair for our ratepayers. Rates have remained at 4.5 per cent for several years as Council continues to deliver crucial ongoing services, capital infrastructure and invests in economic development, tourism and the development and delivery of arts, culture and heritage throughout the city.

In June 2017, I met with the Deputy Premier, Attorney-General the Hon John Rau MP in Adelaide to discuss the withdrawal of funding to the South East Community Legal Service in Mount Gambier. Mr Rau confirmed that $1.9M annually has been removed from the Federal Funding for Community Legal Centres in South Australia.

From 1st  July, 2017 the Southern Community Justice Centre will deliver the generalist legal assistance service across the South East and Riverland. All proposals to provide this service were assessed through a procurement process, which was overseen by an external independent probity advisor. Mr Rau said that South Australia needs to develop a more efficient and rigorous community legal centre and suggested that the service to be provided by Southern Community Justice Centre will remain the same as currently delivered and may even offer an improvement on the current service. Please contact me at city@mountgambier.sa.gov.au  if you have any feedback on this issue.

Thank you for visiting our website and if you’re not a local, we hope you will come and visit us and enjoy the unique experience our City and region has to offer.
